Zip Transport Services is a for-profit non-emergency medical transportation company proudly serving the local and long-distance transportation needs throughout Roanoke County and prescheduled appointments beyond.
Founded by an experienced nurse of more than 20 years of experience in the medical industry, Charise Vilfrard became inspired to create Zip Transport Services in response to the growing needs of area seniors. While working in various nursing home and hospice settings, Charise witnessed firsthand the delays and less than professional service of local transportation providers.
Recognizing the senior population of Virginia is continuing to grow in size and demand as well as hospitals and medical centers in need of timely transportation solutions, Charise became inspired to create a more reliable, timely, and readily available assisted transportation solution catering to area seniors and those with mobility issues.
From serving in the Air Force as an Aeromedical EMT-B to serving in various leadership positions as a certified Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) nurse, Charise is committed to building a diligent, responsible, and caring staff. Unlike other services operating as a curb-to-curb service, Zip Transport Services is committed to safely escorting patients and residents from their residence or facility to a clean, comfortable, and modern wheelchair accessible vehicle. On arrival at their appointment, trained staff will escort clients to check-in.
In continuing to build strong relationships with area staff, residents, and families, rather focusing exclusively on volume and profits, Zip Transport Services is keenly focused on providing exceptional and timely customer service with the compassion you and your loved ones deserve.

We are continuously striving to implement effective strategies for enhanced training, integrated technologies, and managerial support and communication. Because we provide local and long-distance transportation, effective planning and communication between dispatch and key facilities is paramount.
We continuously work on enhancing our scheduling and traffic management in an effort to reduce travel and wait times while increasing efficiency. We work to adapt and implement policies and procedures to support our mission, to analyze and advise on transportation issues, evaluate scheduling conflicts, negotiate and correspond with carriers, vendors, and strategic partners.
Dispatchers will receive extensive instruction on using our technological integration systems designed to support our growing scheduling and logistical demands. Dispatchers are responsible for the following:
- Customer intake
- Preparation of daily schedules and trip manifests
- Effective driver management and scheduling
- Trip management and oversight
- Coordination with facility personnel
